PD Ports Invests £8.6 Million in Environmentally Friendly Liebherr Cranes at Tees Dock

May 25, 2023by CN_MAR

PD Ports, a prominent port group in the UK, continues its journey towards achieving carbon neutrality with the introduction of two Liebherr cranes at Tees Dock. These impressive cranes stand tall at 83 meters with the fully raised boom and boast enhanced handling capacities ranging from 100 to 140 tonnes. Operating on electric-hydraulic power, they provide a more environmentally conscious and efficient solution for loading and unloading various bulk commodities. This investment amounts to £8.6 million ($10.7 million), further solidifying PD Ports’ commitment to sustainability.

This development is part of a series of investments made by PD Ports to meet the growing demand, as global customers increasingly recognize Teesport as a leading hub for bulk commodities. In 2020, the unveiling of the £12 million ($14.9 million) Teesport Bulks Terminal further enhanced the port’s appeal.

The delivery of these two cranes was accomplished by the esteemed vessel, Happy Buccaneer, from the renowned BigLift fleet. Frans Calje, CEO at PD Ports, emphasized the significance of these mobile harbor cranes as the company strives for carbon neutrality.

Frans expressed his delight at witnessing the operational deployment of the new cranes at Tees Dock, stating, “As a business, we are fully committed to driving positive change and constructing a more sustainable future. This investment underscores our dedication to these goals while ensuring that we maintain the highest operational standards.”

He further acknowledged PD Ports’ responsibility towards the environment, communities, and customers, highlighting their ambitious decarbonization targets, which they are well on track to surpass. By incorporating this state-of-the-art equipment alongside the existing excellent facilities at Tees Dock, PD Ports continues to lead in service excellence and delivery.

PD Ports has already made significant progress in reducing CO2 emissions, bringing them down to levels last observed in 2000 through a wide range of initiatives. Their steadfast efforts aim to achieve carbon neutrality by 2027, demonstrating their commitment to sustainable practices
