MacGregor, a division of Cargotec, has secured a substantial contract to provide comprehensive RoRo (Roll-on/Roll-off) equipment packages for an additional four Aurora-class pure car and truck carriers (PCTCs) for Höegh Autoliners, marking a pivotal expansion in the Aurora class newbuilding program.
This noteworthy order, recorded in Cargotec’s fourth-quarter 2023 intake, is set to contribute to the delivery of these vessels between the second quarter of 2026 and the first half of 2027. All twelve vessels under the Aurora class initiative are slated for construction at China Merchant Heavy Industries (Jiangsu) Co.
The inaugural steel-cutting ceremony for the first vessel in this class transpired in March at China Merchants Heavy Industry (CMHI). Subsequently, Höegh Autoliners has further fortified its commitment to this innovative program by placing an order for an additional four Aurora-class PCTCs, bringing the total vessels in the newbuilding program to a dozen.
Renowned as the world’s largest and most environmentally friendly car carriers, the Aurora class boasts a capacity to transport up to 9,100 cars. Notably, these vessels will be equipped with DNV’s ammonia and methanol-ready notations, aligning with evolving industry standards.
MacGregor’s involvement encompasses a comprehensive scope of services, including the design, supply, and installation support for a large stern quarter ramp, a door, a side ramp and a door, internal ramp systems, and liftable car decks across all four vessels.
